VIENNA, March 2 (Hina) - High Representative for Bosnia-
Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch on Thursday in Vienna spoke before
the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE)
Permanent Council for the first time since he took over the Office.
Petritsch discussed the current political situation in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
The High Representative marked the continuation of the revival of
the peace process, the development of state institutions, the
implementation of economic reforms, the reconstruction of
demolished infrastructure, as well as the return of refugees and
returnees as the priority of his work.
Municipal elections in April and parliamentary election this
autumn will be two important stops for the further development of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Petritsch said and added that the situation
was very complicated.
New Croatian President Stipe Mesic said that Bosnian Croats should
not seek safety and help only from Zagreb but should also turn to
Sarajevo. This is an exceptional novelty for our project of the
construction of the country", Petritsch concluded.
Head of the OSCE mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina Robert Barry said
that the most important thing was for politicians and citizens to
take the responsibility for the future.
The most important task in the year 2000 is that the parliament
adopts an electoral law which will be in line with all international
standards, Barry stressed.
