SARAJEVO, Feb 22 (Hina) - A book by Marko Marulic, entitled "Glasgowski stihovi" (Glasgow Verses), translated from Latin and edited by Darko Novakovic, was presented for the first time at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Sarajevo on Tuesday. Novakovic discovered Marulic's epigrams at the Glasgow University Library in 1995. #L# Today's event took place at the beginning of marking the 550th anniversary of the birth of Marulic, who has an important place in the history of Croatian literature. Known for his "morality-didactical best-sellers," in his Glasgow verses Marulic presents himself also as an author of love and satirical epigrams, Novakovic said presenting the publication. The anniversary of Marulic's birth will be marked by international scientific seminars, exhibitions, and other events throughout the year 2000, under the sponsorship of the UNESCO. Marko Marulic, also called the father of Croatian literature and Croatia's Dante, is the first well-known Croatian writer who wrote poetry in Croatian, but it is his scientific work in Latin by which he gained fame across Europe.
