National Sabor Zlatko Tomcic in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The Ambassador of the country chairing the European Union, as well
as French Ambassador to Croatia Albert Turot, and special envoy of
the European Commission Per Vinther on Tuesday held talks with
president of the Croatian National Sabor Tomcic.
"It will be a long process but it will depend also on the dynamics
and paste that Croatia will be willing to take", Ambassador Barata
told reporters.
"...the European Union is willing to support Croatia on its way to
European integration, and according to the declarations of the new
authorities, of the Government, of the Speaker of the Sabor, of the
new President of the Republic, we are very hopeful that Croatia will
take the necessary steps that were set by the European Union to
start this process in a very positive way", Barata added.
The European Union demands changes of certain regulations of laws
on rights of minorities, enabling and accelerating the return of
refugees and displaced persons, the cooperation with the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY),
the strengthening of regional cooperation, democratisation of
media and economic reforms.
Tomcic said that this meeting with the European Troika was a logical
continuation of the process which was started by the visit of the
Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan to Lisbon, Brussels, and
Berlin. He stressed that everything what the Croatian National
Sabor should do in the process of Croatia's approaching the
European Union would be done as soon as possible.
