RIJEKA, Feb 21 (Hina) - Croatia's agriculture has collapsed completely and urgent measures are necessary to rehabilitate the current state of affairs, Croatian Farmers' Alliance president Ivan Kolar told reporters in Rijeka on Monday.
Farmers live at a level which is below human dignity because what they live off has been destroyed by uncontrolled importing, said Kolar. The farmers' alliance wants the Agriculture Ministry to accept farmers as their partners, and not to create and effect a political policy without farmers' influence, as was done under the previous government, he stated. The president of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar branch of the Croatian
Chamber of Commerce Fishermen Association, Miljenko Milohanic,
protested over the fact that an announced increase in the price of
fuel used by Croatian fishermen would be five times higher than the
price paid by fishermen in neighbouring Italy.
The Croatian Farmers' Alliance is aware of the difficult conditions
the new government is working in, but also demands that
understanding be extended to farmers and fishermen as well.
