ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - The newly-elected President of the Croatian National Sabor and president of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Zlatko Tomcic, was born in Zagreb on July 10, 1945. He is from a family of Srijem Croats of rural
and entrepreneurial provenance. The place of his birth was caused by the exile of his family at the end of World War II. Tomcic completed his primary and secondary education in Sremska Mitrovica and earned his title as a civil engineer at the Belgrade Faculty of Civil Engineering. Tomcic completed his primary and secondary education in Sremska
Mitrovica and earned his title as a civil engineer at the Belgrade
Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Tomcic started his career as a project engineer for buildings in
Sremska Mitrovica in 1970, after which he worked in investment

Tomcic's special field of business is the organisation of building
activities in structural engineering and his field of autonomous
business is a 'healthy dwelling' programme and constructional
revitalisation of cultural monuments and environmental
protection.
In 1991, Tomcic established a company for civil engineering and
designing. He is the company's co-owner.
Between 1993 and 1994 he was the Minister of Construction and
Environmental Protection.
Until 1984, he was not a member of any political party. In the same
year, he founded an illegal organisation of the Croatian Peasants'
Party in Zagreb. He joined the renewed HSS in 1990.
He is a member of the HSS Central Board. He was elected HSS president
in 1994 and an MP in 1995.
Tomcic was a member of parliamentary committees for interior policy
and national security, zoning and environmental protection and
agriculture, village and farmers.
He was elected HSS president for the third time in 1998 and re-
elected an MP in 2000.
He is married with three daughters.
