BRUSSELS, Jan 21 (Hina) - The head of Croatia's mission at the
European Union (EU), Ambassador Janko Vranyczany-Dobrinovic on
Friday held talks with NATO Secretary-General George Robertson at
his request, Croatia's Foreign Ministry reported.
Robertson voiced satisfaction with democratic changes in Croatia
and said he was also satisfied with statements given by the winning
coalition and announced guidelines of its activities.
At the Brussels talks Robertson added that NATO was expecting that
deeds would soon speak for the coalition.
He also advised the future Croatian government to make the most
difficult decisions immediately and carry them out in first six
months, and thus the situation in Croatia can start changing.
Such changes will be welcome by important factors of the
international community, NATO Secretary-General said.
Robertson was interested particularly in future relations between
new Croatia authorities and Bosnia-Herzegovina and the full
implementation of the Dayton peace accords, read the Ministry's
statement.
Janko Vranyczany-Dobrinovic notified Robertson that priorities of
the new Government would be strong incentives to economy, the
entire democratisation of the society, strengthening of the law-
based state, the full civilian control of the military budget,
fighting against corruption, cuts in unemployment rates,
completely transparent relationship toward Bosnia and the
implementation of the Dayton accords.
Concerning the foreign policy, the Croatian ambassador said the new
government will be fully open and will cooperate with all factors of
the international community and the countries in the region.
New authorities will invest efforts aimed at Croatia's admission to
the EU and entry in the Partnership for Peace programme, Vranyczany
added.
He requested NATO Secretary-General to support Croatia's bids and
endeavours, as it would be very hard to accomplish planned
objectives without assistance of western countries and important
international organisations, the statement read.
