ZAGREB, Jan 4 (Hina) - According to temporary and unofficial
results of the presidential elections in Croatia, 71
representatives from the joint list of the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) and the Croatian Social Democratic Party (HSLS) will be in the
new composition of the Croatian National Sabor's House of
Representatives.
The Croatian Democratic Unit (HDZ) will have 40 representatives,
the Opposition Four will have 24 representative, while the
coalition of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) and the Croatian
Christian Democratic Union (HKDU) will have five representatives.
These are unofficial results according to the D'Hondt method
gathered by noon Tuesday.
A total of 140 representatives were being elected in ten electoral
units, namely 14 representative per unit.
Even though significant differences are not to be expected, changes
could occur at the moment the final results are announced. This
could happen in electoral units in which electoral lists are more
tied according to the number of votes, and in units in which several
parties are only insignificantly under or above the electoral
threshold, namely by five percent.
According to the results announced at noon today, of 71 seats which
would be given to the SDP/HSLS coalition, the SDP would have 44
mandates, while the HSLS would have 24. Given that the list in
certain electoral unit was in a coalition with another two parties,
two seats would be given to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Party (PGS)
and one would go to Slavonia Baranja Croatia's Party (SBHS).
Given that the HDZ has not appeared in an coalition on any list, it
would have 40 seats in the parliament.
Of 24 seats won in 10 electoral units by the Opposition Four, the
Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) would have 16 mandates, the Istrian
Democratic Assembly would have four, while the Liberal Party (LS)
and the Croatian People's Party (HNS) would each have 2 seats in the
parliament.
However, the HSS would be given another seat, the 17th, because in a
separate electoral unit for minorities, its candidate Zdenka
Cuhnil, of the Czech and Slovak minority, is in the lead.
The HSP would have four mandates, while its coalition partner, the
HKDU, would receive one seat in the parliament.
Another five representatives of national minorities will be
included in the new composition of the parliament.
Along with the 145 representatives, the Croatian National Sabor
will include so far an unknown number of representatives from the
Croatian Diaspora. The exact number of Diaspora representatives
will be announced after the exact results of the elections in the
11th separate unit are made public.
