ZAGREB, Jan 4 (Hina) - According to partial returns, processed by
10.00 am Tuesday, from polls where members of the national
minorities voted to elect their deputies to the Croatian Parliament
there were no significant changes compared to the first preliminary
unofficial results released on early Tuesday morning.
There were only major changes on the list for which Austrians,
Germans, Ruthenians, Ukrainians and Jews voted. According to the
latest returns, Borislav Graljuk took the lead with 34.24 percent.
Slavko Burda remained the second with 18.69 percent.
According to latest returns for the 12th electoral unit (covering
national minorities throughout Croatia) a Serb candidate Milan
Djukic was ahead of Milorad Pupovac.
Of votes cast by Croatian Hungarians, Tibor Santo won the highest
number of votes and he was followed by Denes Soja.
Italians in Croatia voted mostly for Furio Radin who won almost 80
percent of ballots. Tullio Persi was the second candidate for a seat
of the Italian minority in the Croatian parliament.
The above-mentioned most numerous minorities - Serbs (251,366),
Hungarians (36,284) and Italians (17,995) - are to have one deputy
each in the Sabor.
Members of the Czech and Slovakian minorities could elect one joint
deputy and Austrians, Germans, Ruthenians, Ukrainians and Jews
could vote for their joint representative. Thus the 12th
constituency (national minorities) will have five MPs in Croatia.
Members of Czech and Slovakian minorities cast most votes for
Zdenka Cuhnil (40.67 percent) and Ana Vodvarka (25.53 percent).
In case members of minorities did not wish to elect their
representatives in that separate 12th unit, they could vote for one
of lists offered in the constituency where they live.
