(HSS), Liberal Party (LS), Croatian People's Party (HNS) and the
Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS), along with the Action of
Croatian Social Democrats (ASH) which joined the 'opposition four'
in some electoral units, said they were satisfied with the number of
won votes in January 3 elections for the Croatian National
Parliament House of Representatives, following preliminary
temporary unofficial results of the poll.
HSS president Zlatko Tomcic said the elections had shown the
complete maturity of the Croatian electorate.
"The era of the one-party HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) reign has
ended," Tomcic said, stressing unofficial electoral results of the
coalition were moving in an expected direction.
LS president Vlado Gotovac stressed it was important to hear the
voice of the nation in these elections.
"The voters said they did not want the HDZ, but what the Opposition
had spoken about - democracy, the freedom of the individual and a
law-based state," he said.
Gotovac said citizens should continue to cooperate with the new
authority so Croatia could be a state as such as they had opted for.
Congratulating the Social Democratic party (SDP) - Croatian social
Liberal Party (HSLS) coalition for its excellent electoral
results, HNS president Radimir Cacic said he was satisfied with the
opposition four's results, and that the Opposition Six would not be
able to realise constitutional changes they had promised voters.
ASH president Silvije Degen said he was exceptionally satisfied
with the result of the poll, and congratulated the SDP-HSLS
coalition.
"We will remain proof-readers of the Croatian authority and we will
fight for the common man -- the socially endangered," Degen said.
