LONG QUEUES AT POLLING STATIONS IN BOSNIA PROLONG TIME OF VOTING

SARAJEVO, Jan 2 (Hina) - Several polling stations in Bosnia-Herzegovina had to continue working after the official time of closing at 07.00 pm on Sunday in order to make it possible for many Croatia's citizens, who were standing in lines for several hours in front of polling booths, to vote for the Sabor's House of Representatives, reported the Croatian Embassy in Sarajevo. Besides the prolongation of the opening hours of the polls in the Bosnian capital, polling stations in Mostar, Livno, Jajce, Novi Travnik, Capljina and Usora had to work after 07.00 pm today. All the day there were long queues of Croatian citizens in front of the polls in 15 Bosnian towns, who wanted to vote for the Croatian National Sabor House of Representatives. In Sarajevo, eligible voters had to stand in lines for more than an hour in bitter cold to reach polling boxes. Embassy staff offered necessary aid to the elderly and sick. A low turnout was registered at two polling stations set up in the towns of Banja Luka and Prijedor, the Bosnian Serb entity. In Prijedor just two persons cast their votes on Sunday, while about one hundred Croatian citizens appeared at the polling station in Banja Luka. A spokeswoman for the OSCE mission in Bosnia, Sanela Tunovic- Becirevic, told Hina that during the first day of voting organised for Croatian citizens outside Croatia no incident had been reported from polling stations in Bosnia. OSCE representatives did not notice any irregularity at the polls. OSCE made it possible for international observers to monitor the voting continuously at polling stations in Bosnia. The monitors will also follow the counting of ballots. The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is to draw up a report on the Croatian parliamentary election, and a part of this report will include comments of international monitors in Bosnia. Polling stations on 15 locations in Bosnia will be open from 07.00 am to 07.00 pm Monday as well. (hina) ms
