ZAGREB, Dec 27 (Hina) - A new law on health insurance defining the
basic packet of health services will come into effect at the start
of the new year.
The application of the new law is expected by March 1 at the
earliest, and June 30 at the latest.
Children younger than 18 years of age, people with 80% disability,
military war invalids, chronic psychological patients and people
who receive compensation per family members or personally below the
property census, which still needs to be set, will not have to pay
participation fees for any health service.
Fees will also not have to paid by pregnant women, people infected
by HIV, as well as people injured at the workplace or affected by
professional-related illnesses.
The basic health insurance will cover the expenses of mandatory
vaccinations, chemo and radio therapies, organ transplantation,
emergency interventions and some other forms of primary health
assistance.
Patients will pay 15% of the price for specialist-consilliary
health insurance, surgeries and medical care abroad.
Twenty-five to 50% of the service price will be paid for health care
at home, as well as the hospital care of some illnesses.
The new law will introduce additional, voluntary health insurance,
which might amount to 50 to 70 kuna per month, and would cover the
difference in prices of the basic health services.
The law also decreases medical leave compensations from the current
80 to 70% of the net salary, and determines the categorisation of
medical leave length.
