OFFICIALS PAY VISIT TO SERB DETAINEES

OSIJEK, Dec 19 (Hina) - Croatian Assistant Justice Minister Radovan Majski and the head of the Penalty Implementation Administration, Neven Putar, visited the Osijek County penitentiary on Wednesday where they spoke with nine Serb detainees indicted of war crimes. They have been refusing prison food for seven days. Putar told reporters this was not a hunger strike, since they were refusing to eat prison food, but they could still buy food in the canteen. He added the nine were under constant medical supervision, and one had stopped refusing food. The detainees said they had no objections to the prison's management and the attitude of the personnel toward them. Their protest was an expression of dissatisfaction with the system, Putar said.
