PODGORICA, Dec 9 (Hina) - Montenegrin Foreign Minister Branko Lukovac said in Podgorica on Sunday that the standpoints of the French President Jacques Chirac under which the European Union would not recognise Montenegro's independence
was Chirac's personal opinion. According to Lukovac, Chirac's opinion is not based on the principles of international relations on which the EU was founded. "If we don't have our own country we cannot be candidates for joining the EU, nor any other international organisation...," Lukovac said. The Montenegrin official also said the statements of the French President and other world leaders on future relations within the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia were pressures on Montenegro to give up its independence.(hina) it
