ZAGREB, Dec 7 (Hina) - French President Jacques Chirac will on
Saturday pay a brief friendly visit to Croatia during which he and
his host, President Stjepan Mesic, will discuss the situation in
the region, anti-terrorism, and bilateral issues, the President's
advisor on foreign affairs, Tomislav Jakic, told Hina.
This is the first bilateral visit of a French president to Croatia,
Jakic said.
Chirac will arrive in Zagreb from Belgrade and stay in the Croatian
capital only a couple of hours before returning to France.
The French president will also meet Prime Minister Ivica Racan.
Chirac visited Croatia a year ago, when he participated in the
Zagreb Summit, which he helped found and chair, but he never paid an
official visit to Croatia nor did his predecessor Francois
Mitterand, who left his office and May 1995 and died in January
1996.
Mesic paid a visit to France in May last year.
Tomorrow's visit was announced in August this year, and was to take
place in September but Chirac postponed his visits to Zagreb and
Belgrade due to the terrorist attacks on the United States on
September 11.
