ZAGREB, Nov 22 (Hina) - Following a day-long debate on a draft state
budget for 2002, the government has a lot to consider and try to
amend the draft, Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac said at the end of
parliament's session on Thursday.
The minister said the MPs were right in pointing out that some items
of the draft needed to be analysed again in an attempt to direct some
funds for other purposes.
Crkvenac announced the government would acknowledge demands to
return spending for national minorities on the level established in
the this year's revised budget, and conceded the 2002 draft budget
envisaged spending too little on science.
The minister agreed with remarks that the mechanisms of the new
funds for development, employment, and regional development should
be fine-tuned.
The government will do everything to take into consideration the
demands made in today's debate, Crkvenac said, but added it should
be remembered that the budgetary expenditure and deficit could not
be increased.
MPs may move amendments to the draft by Nov. 29. Discussion and
voting will take place on Dec. 11.
