PARLIAMENT WRAPS UP FIRST WEEK OF 18TH SESSION

ZAGREB, Nov 16 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament wrapped up the first of five weeks planned for its 18th session by stripping of immunity Drago Krpina, Ivic Pasalic, and Ivan Jarnjak, MPs of the strongest opposition party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), thus making it possible to criminally charge them. A debate on a health reform report pointed to a series of issues encountered by the health sector and the insurees. The ruling and opposition MPs agreed the reform, although formally in force for the past 18 months, was not effective in practice. The opposition's MPs stated the situation in the health sector was disastrous, blaming a poor health policy. The ruling coalition countered by saying the poor state of the sector was not surprising, owing to low allocations, a mere $400 per capita. Parliament resumes the session on Nov. 21, when MPs should debate a draft state budget for next year. (hina) ha sb
