ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - The salary basis for civil servants will
remain unchanged and will amount to 4,232 kuna, the president of the
Union of Civil Servants and Government Employees, Ivica Ihas, said
on Monday night. He, however, could not estimate whether the
salaries would remain at the current level.
Until we examine in detain the government's amendments to the
regulation of coefficients which was presented by Vice-Premier
Goran Granic, we cannot assess whether the salaries of civil
servants would remain at the present level, Ihas said after
negotiations at the government about a collective agreement for the
public sector.
Ihas said the coefficients have not been raised, but were levelled
with those of public servants.
"We must compare the coefficients of civil and public employees and
see whether a concrete balance has been achieved," Ihas stressed.
According to him, the government's suggested amendments lacked a
comprehensive proposal for coefficients of those employed in the
judiciary.
The amendments to the regulations do not include the coefficients
of those employed at the Interior Ministry, Police Trade Union
president Dubravko Jagic told Hina, and announced that the issue
would be discussed within a fortnight.
The unions would forward their comments on the government's
suggestion to the government when negotiations continue next
week.
