MOSTAR, Nov 8 (Hina) - The international community's High Representative in Bosnia on Thursday passed a decision whereby persons charged with serious crimes need not be placed in custody for the duration of criminal proceedings.
Wolfgang Petritsch has thus adjusted the laws on criminal proceedings in Bosnia's two entities, the Croat-Muslim federation and the Serb republic, to European conventions on human rights, Petritsch's Office said in a statement on Thursday. Under the decision, Bosnian judges are free to decide on ruling detention during criminal proceedings for individuals charged with grave crimes. Previously, detention was mandatory in both entities.
