MOSTAR, Oct 29 (Hina) - A deputy prefect of Bosnia's southern Herzegovina-Neretva canton, Dragan Vrankic, has opposed a request by local Bosniaks (Muslims) that a supervisor be appointed for Stolac municipality. The proposal was
presented in a letter canton prefect Sefkija Dziho sent to High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch last week. "The proposal for appointing a supervisor for Stolac municipality is a call to declare a state of emergency in the municipality, which practically means preventing the functioning of its legitimate and legal authority," Vrankic said. He believes the appointment of a supervisor would slow down democratic processes in the municipality and the entire canton. Herzegovina-Neretva Canton is the largest canton in the (Croat-Muslim) Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is believed to be the canton where the process of normalisation of Croat-Muslim relations is slowest.(hina) rml
