ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - Members of the Croatian Parliament's committee for equality among sexes on Monday supported a bill on defence, advocating that women in the Croatian Armed Forces have the same opportunity to pursue a
professional military career as do men. The majority of the committee members advocated the women's right to voluntarily serve in the army. This legal document does not regulate the issue of community service and the women's right to serve in the military. The issues will be regulated by a separate law, Deputy Defence Minister Zlatko Gareljic said. According to him, the active component of the Croatian Armed Forces includes 5,932 women, namely 14 percent. He also said the highest ranking woman in the army is a Lieutenant Colonel.
