POLICE HAVE NO INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE PROVOCATION AT OCT 20 RALLY

ZAGREB, Oct 18 (Hina) - The police have no information on possible acts of provocation at the October 20 protest rally of the Headquarters for the protection of Homeland War values, but it will take decisive measures against any violation of the law and public peace and order or threats to citizens' safety, Zagreb police superintendent Ivan Babic said on Thursday. The organisers of the rally have announced the arrival of around 300 buses, but the information has not been confirmed yet, he said. Babic did not want to say how many police officers would secure the rally, saying only there would be enough police but they would not 'irritate' the protesters with their presence. He called on Zagreb residents to demonstrate tolerance during the rally. The rally is being organised in an atmosphere of general tension in the world, caused by the terrorist attacks on the United States, and this has reflected on Croatia and Zagreb too. Mass meetings are rarely held in Europe these days due to security reasons, Babic said, adding the police would nevertheless do all to provide full safety for Zagreb residents and the protesters.
