ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - Croatia has carried out its first police
action against child pornography, dubbed "Purgatory 1". Across the
country police have confiscated computers from 50 people suspected

Purgatory 1 is the first such action in Croatia and the biggest ever
carried out in the world, according to the Interior Ministry.
The action began on Tuesday and was jointly coordinated by
ministry's the white-collar and corruption department, the
juvenile delinquency department and thirteen police stations
cross-country.
The Interior Ministry's computer crimes expert, Ognjen Haramina,
told a news conference on Wednesday the action follows last year's
police action "Author 2" in which one person was found to distribute
child pornography material via computer. Police had used the
information gathered in the action to get to 50 people who purchased
the material, Haramina said.
The only information Haramina could give out concerning the 50
suspects was that they were of various professional profiles,
although connected. There are also several minors involved.
Haramina dismissed the possibility that the material was produced
in Croatia or that Croatian children were used for its production.
Asked why nobody was apprehended, the expert said the inquiry was
still in its preliminary stage of gathering evidence.
Police are likely to search another five homes in the next 48 hours,
he said, and added the public would be informed about the action
after its completion.
