ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - The Croatian Christian Democratic Union (HKDU) issued a statement on Wednesday saying it was "appalled at a statement by Radimir Cacic, who openly threatened to physically assault HKDU president and MP Anto
Kovacevic in the article 'A Fist for Anto Kovacevic' in today's issue of the Novi List daily." "Such conduct of the minister (Cacic is Public Works Minister) is inappropriate and violates the regulations of the penal code, and as such is the basis for pressing criminal charges, and calls for his being stripped of immunity and his resignation as minister," the HKDU statement reads. The article "A Fist for Anto Kovacevic" brings Cacic's comment on Kovacevic's sexist remark about an MP and president of the Croatian People's Party (HNS), Vesna Pusic. ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - The Croatian Christian Democratic Union
(HKDU) issued a statement on Wednesday saying it was "appalled at a
statement by Radimir Cacic, who openly threatened to physically
assault HKDU president and MP Anto Kovacevic in the article 'A Fist
for Anto Kovacevic' in today's issue of the Novi List daily."
"Such conduct of the minister (Cacic is Public Works Minister) is
inappropriate and violates the regulations of the penal code, and
as such is the basis for pressing criminal charges, and calls for
his being stripped of immunity and his resignation as minister,"
the HKDU statement reads.
The article "A Fist for Anto Kovacevic" brings Cacic's comment on
Kovacevic's sexist remark about an MP and president of the Croatian
People's Party (HNS), Vesna Pusic. Describing Kovacevic as a "foul-
mouthed person, fake doctor and man who understands only the
language of the fist," Cacic, according to the daily, hinted
"Kovacevic might have a knuckleburger again."
According to the HKDU statement, Cacic demonstrated "his
primitivism during a (recent) visit to Petrinja, when he made a
chauvinist and sexist remark about the town's deputy mayor Gordana
Dumbovic."
Explaining subsequently his conduct in Petrinja, Cacic said that
Dumbovic had given "an inappropriate interview full of racist
remarks" to a local radio during an election campaign. During the
interview, Dumbovic called Serbs "Gypsies" and asserted that
"Serbs were neither animals nor humans."
The HNS branch from Moscenica near Petrinja pressed charges against
Dumbovic with the municipal state prosecutor's office, submitting
as evidence a recording with her statements in the radio show.
Sisak-Moslavina County police pressed charges against Dumbovic in
September this year on suspicion of racial and other
discrimination. The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), of which
Dumbovic is a member, said the police rigged the charges and
Dumbovic herself said she had not been referring to "Serbs but to
Chetniks who committed atrocities and crimes against Petrinja
Croats during the Homeland War."
