SARAJEVO, Oct 12 (Hina) - The founder and long-standing president of the (Muslim) Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Alija Izetbegovic, has announced he is withdrawing from the leadership of this party, due to his age and health
condition. Izetbegovic, who had been at Bosnia-Herzegovina's political leadership in 1990, left the post of a member of Bosnia's collective Presidency in 2000. His health has been deteriorated by heart diseases and asthma. Besides, he will soon turn 80. At a news conference in Sarajevo on Friday, Izetbegovic said he would remain in the party but he was leaving the first ranks. Candidates for his successor are the influential SDA Vice President Sulejman Tihic and an eminent Sarajevo surgeon, Abdulah Nakas.(hina) sb ms
