Addressing the second electoral assembly of the Independent
Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), its president Vojislav Stanimirovic
said the return of Serb Croat refugees to pre-war homes was
stagnating.
He accused the incumbent authorities of showing no political will
to solve the Serb issue in Croatia but of frequently playing in the
hands of radical right-wing options in previously war-affected
areas.
At today's assembly, the SDSS adopted new guidelines aimed at
ensuring the party's activity on the state level.
The main programme guideline is stepping up returns, as well as the
settlement of Serb Croat refugees' social and property related
issues, said Milorad Pupovac, a senior party official.
"The issue of the Serbs' civic equality has been reduced to
possessing a citizenship certificate and an identity card," he
said, and expressed concern over the citizens' legal insecurity,
and the dramatic social situation in formerly war-affected areas.
Pupovac reiterated the SDSS continued to object to the reduction of
parliamentary seats for the Serb minority to only one.
He urged the government to schedule new local elections in areas in
which Serbs are not represented in proportion to their numbers.
