ZAGREB, Oct 11 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Thursday adopted amendments to the referendum law, harmonising the act with the constitutional changes adopted late last year, when a regulation under which a referendum must be
called if requested by at least 10% of the electorate was included in the Constitution. The amendments stipulate the manner of the collection of signatures and conditions under which a referendum could be called and held. A referendum can be held only on the basis of an unequivocal referendum question. Sabor Speaker is authorised to ask, following the parliamentary Constitution and Rule Book committee's opinion, the Constitutional Court to assess whether the proposed question for a referendum is in compliance with the Constitution and whether the signature-collection procedure is in line with law. The Parliament should submit request for the assessment of a referendum question within

The amendments stipulate the manner of the collection of signatures
and conditions under which a referendum could be called and held.
A referendum can be held only on the basis of an unequivocal
referendum question.
Sabor Speaker is authorised to ask, following the parliamentary
Constitution and Rule Book committee's opinion, the Constitutional
Court to assess whether the proposed question for a referendum is in
compliance with the Constitution and whether the signature-
collection procedure is in line with law.
The Parliament should submit request for the assessment of a
referendum question within 30 days.
Signatures can be gathered only on public premises within a time
term of 15 days.
