ZAGREB, Oct 10 (Hina) - The Croatian government considers the
accelerated construction of the Zagreb-Split highway with the
completion deadline of June 30, 2005 its priority task.
This is a draft proposal the government will discuss at a session to
be held in Split on Thursday. Apart from the road infrastructure
linking central Croatia with its coastal areas, the government will
also discuss issues related to tourism, shipbuilding and the
Slobodna Dalmacija daily.
Prime Minister Ivica Racan believes the costs of the accelerated
construction of the Zagreb-Split highway would amount to three
billion German marks. The government has proposed that the
necessary funds be secured from sources obtained through
succession to the former Yugoslav federation and by increasing road
construction contributions by another 10 lipa as of the beginning
of next year.
The government has also decided to speed up the reconstruction of
the existing Karlovac-Plitvice-Split road.
The government will tomorrow also discuss a draft on the
modernisation and development of railways. The draft refers to the
Lika railway, whose renovation would cost around 1.7 billion kuna
(USD207.3 million), and the Una railway, which is to be discussed
with Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is estimated that the modernisation of
the Una railway would require around 1.6 billion kuna (USD195.1
million), Croatia's share amounting to 960 million kuna.
The government is expected to decide about the recapitalisation of
the Slobodna Dalmacija daily.
Another topic of tomorrow's session is this year's tourist season,
expected to yield a satisfactory increase in tourism turnover of 12
percent. The government will also discuss a programme of
preparations for the next tourist season, one of the main goals
being an increase in tourism turnover of 5 percent.
Several other tourism-related topics will be discussed at the
session as well. The government should adopt a decision on the
management of real estate currently owned by the Defence Ministry,
which can be used as tourist facilities.
The government is expected to adopt a decision on giving state
guarantees for the rescheduling of a loan to 47 hotel companies (in
which the state has a share of more than 25%), and a decision on
conditions for giving state land for the construction of golf
courts.
