ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - The Party of Democratic Action of Croatia
(SDA) on Saturday held its electoral convention at which Semso
Tankovic was re-elected as the president of this party that gathers
Croatian Muslims (Bosniaks).
The SDA adopted two resolutions during the convention.
One resolution refers to the position of the Bosniaks (Muslims) in
Croatia and the other to terrorism as a global phenomenon.
The first document reads that expectations of the Bosniak community
that its position would improve after the change of Croatian
authorities were not met.
The SDA reminded it had forwarded an appeal to the Croatian public
and state institutions for the return the quotation of the Bosniaks
as an ethnic minority in the Croatian Constitution's preamble and
for the election of Bosniak representatives to the parliament.
The party also urges systematic measures which should counter
activities that contribute to the development of Islamophobia and
any other kind of discrimination in Croatia.
Following the recent deadly terrorist attacks in the United States,
the SDA adopted a resolution condemning any activity that can
directly or indirectly incite terrorism.
The party expresses concern over increasing anti-Islamic hysteria
in a large part of the world community in the aftermath of the tragic
events of 11 September.
It urges the avoidance of double standards in the interpretation of
terrorist activities, and joins those who point out the real causes
of terrorism as a global phenomenon as well as those who advocate
the avoidance of vindictive acts that cause the death of innocent
civilians.
