JOURNALIST ASSOCIATIONS DECRY HDZ REQUEST FOR GALIC, LATIN DISMISSAL

ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - Croatian journalists' associations have condemned the request of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) for the dismissal of the Croatian Radio and Television director and the editor of the "Latinica" television show, describing it as impermissible pressure on media and journalists. The Croatian Journalists' Society (HND), Croatian Journalists' Union (SNH), its branch at the Croatian Television, and the electronic media journalists corps, Forum 21, issued a joint statement on Wednesday decrying the HDZ request. The documentary "Storm Over Krajina", focusing on crimes committed against ethnic Serbs and their property during the 1995 Croatian liberation operation 'Storm', shown in the Croatian Television show 'Latinica' on Monday night, caused the HDZ to request the replacement of Croatian Radio-Television director Mirko Galic and the author of the show, Denis Latin. The associations "warn all journalists and media workers about the most recent act of pressure on the media and journalists by the HDZ party which has demanded the resignation of reporter Denis Latin, because it disagrees with the 'Storm Over Krajina' film".
