ZAGREB, Oct 2 (Hina) - Croatian and Macedonian Foreign Ministers
Tonino Picula and Ilinka Mitreva on Wednesday expressed restraint
towards initiatives for new regional organisations of Southeastern
Europe, proposed over the past several weeks.
"Croatia and Macedonia are countries which dismiss the initiatives
for the establishment of new regional institutional systems in the
region because they believe the initiatives are not compatible with
Euro-Atlantic associations," Mitreva said after her talks with the
Croatian Foreign Minister in Zagreb, adding Macedonia advocated "a
more intensive bilateral cooperation" instead.
Picula said the process of stabilisation and association with the
European Union had no alternatives.
Western European political circles over the past several weeks sent
several proposals on the regulation of relations of south-east
European countries, including the proposal of German foreign
Minister Joscka Fisher on the establishment of a joint market in the
Balkans.
Macedonian Minister said she requested Croatia's support for
Macedonia's initiative for the establishment of a regional anti-
terrorist pact, as a part of a global coalition to combat
terrorism.
The programme of Mitreva's visit to Croatia includes talks with
Croatian President Stipe Mesic, parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic
and Prime Minister Ivica Racan.
During talks with Mitreva, Racan reiterated his country's support
to Macedonia's territorial sovereignty and integrity, the Croatian
government media and public relations office said in a statement.
