ZAGREB, Sept 7 (Hina) - Zagreb's food industry Kras today marked its
90th anniversary, placing a foundation stone for the construction
of a warehouse for finished products and opening up a new production
plant for the manufacture of tea biscuits and "Domacica" biscuits.
Officials said at the ceremony on Friday that total investments
into the factory amounted to more than DM125 million in the past
several years.
With 2,075 employees, Kras produces 25,000 tonnes of confectionery
products per year, of which 67 percent is sold on the domestic
market, while the rest is exported to a large number of countries
across the globe. The factory thus makes a turnover from exports of
abut DM40 million every year.
President Stipe Mesic attended the ceremony. He stressed the
example of Kras's successful business is a foundation for optimism
and faith that Croatia can find its own way out of the crisis.
"Croatia must create a framework for healthy business projects and
propelling businesses such as Kras is," Mesic asserted.
Applauding the process of privatisation carried out in Kras, Mesic
said it proceeded under the principle of capital belonging to those
who created it.
The factory's business results are a good example of a successful
reorganisation of business while maintaining its employment rate,
international competitiveness and high profitability.
