ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - The leaders of five Croatian trade unions have requested that the Economy and Social Council (GSV) hold an urgent session on the resignation of State Bureau of Statistics' director Ivan Rusan. At last week's
session the government accepted Rusan's resignation, following the criticism of his work by some ministers, and appointed Zlatko Grzelj the Bureau's new director. The union leaders said in a statement issued today that Rusan's resignation had been exacted by government officials and constituted an act of "political pressure." "If politics has started dominating the statistical profession, the unions are left with nothing but a voluntarist approach, which will further worsen the already corrupted trust and increase the potential for social conflict," the statement says. The unions described Rusan's work as reliable.(hina) rml
