ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - The Croatian Unions Association (HUS) does not support the government's social reform bill, because it will lead to new injustices, HUS president Zdenko Mucnjak stated Wednesday. Instead of eliminating cases
of receipt of social benefits without qualifying for them, the government has indiscriminately abolished benefits for entire social groups, Mucnjak told the press, calling on the members of parliament not to accept the package of bills on social reform, but to rectify it in cooperation with the unions. "If that doesn't work, HUS will organise demonstrations and strikes, alone, or in cooperation with other union associations," he warned. Head of the Zagreb HUS office Mario Ivekovic said the government social restriction bill equalled the "take from the poor to give to the rich" policy. Head of the Zagreb HUS office Mario Ivekovic said the government
social restriction bill equalled the "take from the poor to give to
the rich" policy.
He criticised a number of government initiatives, labelling them
"immoral", specifically the initiative on abolishing child
allowance for the third and every next child, and for the second
half of the year-long maternity leave.
