ZAGREB, Sept 7 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic said today that recent talks with Prime Minister Ivica Racan and associates resulted in the harmonisation of details regarding a draft defence law. "Everything has been agreed on
and all constitutional provisions will be woven into the law," Mesic said. "I am happy with this," the President told reporters at today's celebration of the 90th anniversary of the "Kras" confectionery factory. Mesic and Racan met on Wednesday to solve the issue of the position of the defence minister in the chain of command, considering the fact that he is directly accountable to the president as commander-in-chief, but also to the government. The chain of command would flow from the president, through the defence minister, to the army chief-of-staff, while directions and orders would be issued to the army by the president himself, as commander-in-chief.(hina) lml sb
