MOSTAR, July 31 (Hina) - Tuesday's request filed by the Sarajevo
cantonal prosecutor's office for an investigation against the
president of Bosnia's Croat National Council (HNS), Ante Jelavic,
and six of his associates for advocating the establishment of the
HNS and Croat self-rule in Bosnia, was condemned by Croat officials
in the southern Bosnia-Herzegovina town of Mostar.
Vice president of Bosnia-Herzegovina's Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ BiH) and president of the Croat self-government (one of the
seven indictees) Marko Tokic said the request was "political
pressure without grounds".
Tokic told the Herceg-Bosna radio he doubted that the cantonal
court would gather any evidence stated in the indictment, apart
from ideas the HNS advocated, namely the equality of Croats in
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The founder of the Croatian Christian Democrats, Petar Milic,
against whom the request for the investigation was also filed,
openly opposed the current organisation of Bosnia-Herzegovina,
stressing Croats must have their own entity in the country.
