ZAGREB, Aug 1 (Hina) - The opposition's Christian Democrats (HKDU) have requested an extraordinary parliamentary session to debate a model of cooperation with the UN's war crimes tribunal at The Hague that would be acceptable for

ZAGREB, Aug 1 (Hina) - The opposition's Christian Democrats (HKDU)
have requested an extraordinary parliamentary session to debate a
model of cooperation with the UN's war crimes tribunal at The Hague
that would be acceptable for Croatia, based on partnership and the
acknowledgement of Croatia as an international legal subject.
The Hague tribunal's latest request to the Croatian government with
a list of some 30 politicians, military and intelligence officials
whom the tribunal wants to interview as part of an investigation
into Croatia's 1990s military intervention in Bosnia is aimed at
declaring Croatia as the aggressor on the neighbouring state, HKDU
president Anto Kovacevic said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Such moves and demands on the part of the Hague tribunal have
nothing in common with the invidualisation of guilt but with an
attempt to once again impose collective guilt which would keep the
Croatian people in submission, legal subordination, and economic
and political dependence," Kovacevic claims.
Unless the parliamentary speaker calls an extraordinary session,
Kovacevic will urge the government to call a referendum on the basis
of 400,000 signatures "so that the people can say, in the most
democratic way, what they think of the Hague's relationship towards
Croatia and the Homeland Defence War," the war of independence from
the former Yugoslav federation.
