ZAGREB, July 31 (Hina) - The opposition's Christian Democrats
(HKDU) forwarded an open letter to the government on Tuesday
pointing out the recent Hague war crimes tribunal indictment
against Croatian General Ante Gotovina showed the UN tribunal was
revising recent Croatian history and the 1990s Homeland Defence
War.
The indictment charges Gotovina, who is at large, with crimes
against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war
committed against Croatian Serbs during 1995's Operation Storm.
"The content of the indictment clearly shows the cautionary fact
that the Hague tribunal, on demands and criteria of its sponsors and
patrons, is writing its version of the history of everything that
took place on our territory between 1990 and today," the letter
reads.
The HKDU criticised the absence of a Croatian promotional and
diplomatic strategy towards the international community, and
pointed to the need of making a scientific, political, legal and
military analysis of the creation of Croatia and the war of
independence from the former Yugoslav federation.
For that purpose, the party urged establishing a national institute
for strategic research pooling experts who would be an independent
service to the government, parliament and president of the
republic.
"As long as we keep postponing presenting our truth, the world will
accepts the 'truths' served by the Hague tribunal and Belgrade's
promotional kitchen," the HKDU said in the open letter.
