Although the details of a secret indictment the Croatian government
received on June 8 are unknown, it is assumed the Hague tribunal has
accused Ademi of crimes committed in the September 1993 Pocket of
Medak operation.
The indictment will be read during Ademi's first appearance before
a Hague panel of judges, when he should enter a plea of guilty or not
guilty.
The general has been given the possibility to go to The Hague by
himself after he told the president of the republic and the public
that he was willing to surrender to the tribunal and prove his
innocence. This urged the government to stop extradition
proceedings on July 13 and let Ademi have ten days to prepare for
departure to the Netherlands.
The media speculate the Hague tribunal could let Ademi defend
himself in freedom. His voluntary surrender should be one of the
arguments the defence will use to request his release.
