ZAGREB, July 20 (Hina) - Parliamentary speaker Zlatko Tomcic said on Friday the government had not requested him to call an extraordinary parliamentary session to resume debating a bill of amendments to the Privatisation Act. The bill

ZAGREB, July 20 (Hina) - Parliamentary speaker Zlatko Tomcic said
on Friday the government had not requested him to call an
extraordinary parliamentary session to resume debating a bill of
amendments to the Privatisation Act.
The bill was withdrawn from parliamentary procedure yesterday by
Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic, who today said he would request
an extraordinary session on the matter. Only the government can
make such a request, Tomcic said, adding there had been not one
justified reason not to debate the bill, which was on the agenda, at
the session which wrapped up yesterday.
By withdrawing the bill, Fizulic made a bad move and an
inconsiderate decision, said Tomcic.
"All benches have serious objections to the privatisation bill. Its
withdrawal has prevented a debate on a very delicate issue, the
management of the coastline," the parliamentary speaker said,
adding the bill had many other inconsistencies as well.
Asked if the valid Privatisation Act might be abused before
amendments were adopted, for instance by a quick privatisation of
coastline facilities, Tomcic said he had held consultations at the
government and was confident another reckless move would not be
made.
Sources close to the government said today the government did not
expect an extraordinary parliamentary session on the privatisation
bill.
