NEW YORK, June 21 (Hina) - The current political process in Kosovo
is crucial for strengthening moderate forces and curbing the
extremist ones on both sides, reads a report by a delegation of the
U.N. Security Council who were on a visit to Kosovo from Saturday to
Monday.
This is the first time in the history of the United Nations that
diplomats from all 15 Security Council member-countries have
visited a crisis area.
The chairman of the Security Council, Bangladeshi Ambassador
Anwarul Chowdhuri, said the delegation conveyed a clear message to
all to give up violence, extremism and terrorism and cooperate with
the U.N. Mission to Kosovo in implementing Resolution 1244.
It is reiterated in the report that the main gaol of the U.N. mission
is to preserve multiethnicity and develop democracy in the
province. The Serbian population of Kosovo is urged to participate
in the bodies of authority which are being established by the UNMIK
and not to establish parallel authorities.
The Security Council calls on international representatives to
speed up activities and show more determination in shedding light
on the fate of missing persons and prisoners because all ethnic
groups hold that issue a major obstacle to reconciliation.
All Kosovo residents and refugees are urged to take part in the
November 17 elections for local bodies of authority.
UNMIK is advised to continue cooperating with Serbian and Yugoslav
authorities because they have a major influence on the
circumstances in Kosovo.
