DJINDJIC:WE REALISE IDEALS OF SERBIA OF THIS WORLD, NOT HEAVENLY ONE

BELGRADE, June 28 (Hina) - Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic on Thursday evening admitted that the government had been pressed to adopt a decision on the extradition of former Yugoslav and Serbian President, Slobodan Milosevic, to the UN war crimes court. "The discontinuation of the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and the postponement of the cooperation would have had incalculable consequences for the present and future Serbia," Djindjic said in his public address broadcast by the state-run Serbian television after Milosevic's hand-over to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) earlier in the day. Djindjic appealed to citizens of Serbia for showing "understanding for the only proper and difficult decision "(the government made on Thursday afternoon) on the extradition of Milosevic to the ICTY. "Exactly 12 years ago, on this day, one of our biggest (religious holidays) - 'Vidovdan' (St. Vitus' Day) - Slobodan Milosevic, called on our people to realise what he described as ideals of heavenly Serbia. This led to 12 years marked by wars, disasters and the decadence of our country. The (incumbent) Government of Serbia has committed itself to carrying out ideals of Serbia of this world. By this decision we save our children's future," Djindjic said. (hina) ms
