PULA, June 24 (Hina) - Istria County Police have established that
the suspect of Friday's killing of a Romany, Ramadan Gusani, is his
nephew, a 32-year-old man, Zeljko Deconte.
Yesterday, Deconte from the street threw a bomb into the Gusani flat
in the coastal town of Pula. In the strong explosion which rocked
the flat of this Romany family at 02.5 am, 59-year-old Ramadan
Gusani lost his life, while his wife sustained light injuries.
A spokeswoman for the Istria police on Sunday said the police
established that the perpetrator of this attack was Zeljko Deconte
(whose previous name used to be Rahman Gusani) who had already
criminal records and was a registered drug-addict.
At the moment of the attack there were several other persons, mostly
children, in the flat but they, fortunately, were not hurt.
A local State Prosecutor, Vlatko Nuic, said the motive had not yet
been known, but it would be established after an investigative
judge interrogated the suspect.
In this way, a possibility that skin-heads committed the murder was
excluded. Yesterday a leader of the local Romany community
expressed fear that skin heads might be the perpetrators of this
crime.
Establishing that the suspect is the victim's nephew, the police
ruled out that possibility.
Besides, so far there have been no groups in the area of Pula that
declare themselves as skinheads and no such group has been
registered, the police spokeswoman Stefanija Prosenjak-Zumber
said.
At about 10.30 am Saturday also, in a restaurant the suspect Deconte
committed larceny when he impudently took away a bank-note of 200
kuna from the hands of the owner of the restaurant.
In addition, Deconte is believed to have thrown a hand grenade in
the yard of a building in Gabriele Emo Street in Pula on 18 June. In
the explosion, he was wounded whereas damage was done to a parked
car and the facade of the building, the police spokeswoman said at
the new conference in Pula.
