ZAGREB, June 6 (Hina) - Representatives of seven public service unions on Wednesday refused to sign a government draft agreement on the basic wage and material rights of public and civil servants, estimating that the offered monthly
basic wage of 4,232 kuna (approx. $486) might reduce wages by 10-30 percent. The wages of people employed in education, health and culture will drop drastically, said the unionists. The unions nevertheless hope the wage cuts will be compensated through work agreements which will be negotiated with the government next month. The unions will decide on how to respond to the offered 4,232 kuna in coming days, and do not rule out the possibility of organising a strike. The government said in a statement its representatives today failed to reach an agreement with public service unions on the basic wage. The government will regulate the issue with a decision stipulating it
