VIENNA, June 14 (Hina) - The Croatian delegation today presented
the OSCE Permanent Council with a statement by the Croatian
government on the issue of refugees and the restitution of
property. Together with Yugoslav representatives at the
Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, they
presented a joint statement signed by Croatian and Yugoslav
presidents about the further normalisation of relations between
the two countries, signed in Verbania last week.
The Croatian Ambassador at the OSCE, Mario Nobilo said the Public
Works, Reconstruction and Development Ministry drew up a list of
all houses in which refugees are accommodated, and into which their
owners wish to return, which is included in the government's
statement, and was presented to the Permanent Council.
The government calls on the international community to provide
support in solving development issues, such as the employment of
returnees, and thus enable sustainable development in areas struck
by war, Nobilo said.
As regards the Kostunica-Mesic statement, Nobilo said this was the
first joint appearance of the Croatian and Yugoslav presidents at
the OSCE in presenting joint efforts in cooperation and stability
in the region. He added it was agreed that they should continue to
act jointly in a constructive tone instead of gathering weak points
regarding problems from the past.
We believe there will be more joint statements like this one,
because the momentum in bilateral relations and the normalisation
of relations between Croatia and Yugoslavia, which has begun, will
be followed by a meeting between the two countries' foreign
ministers, then by negotiations on the Prevlaka peninsula, and
other meetings. These will be hailed by the OSCE as the efforts so
far have been today at the OSCE Permanent Council session, Nobilo
stressed.
The Yugoslav Ambassador at the OSCE, Branislav Milinkovic, said the
joint appearance by the Croatian and Yugoslav delegations was the
first, but not last joint statement and appearance in achieving
interests important for both countries.
