SKOPJE, June 12 (Hina) - Albanian terrorists, lying in ambush,
opened fire at Macedonian Interior Ministry's car on the Tetovo-
Jazince rood near the village of Odri and wounded 9 policemen in the
car. The police officers are not in critical conditions, and six of
the wounded sustained only light injuries, according to sources in
Skopje.
A lull was reported from the Kumanovo crisis area. OSCE
(Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe)
representatives failed to persuade Albanian terrorists to let the
water flow into the Lipkovsko Lake and avoid an outbreak of
epidemic, which is likely to be caused due to a lack of water. The
terrorists who had already removed a generator for providing the
equipment with power, conditioned the set-up of the generator on
receiving another three trucks with humanitarian aid for the
village of Lipkovo. Nobody knows how many civilians may be in that
village which the armed Albanians are holding. On Monday
International Red Cross teams drove two trucks loaded with food and
medicines there, and the OSCE and the Red Cross announced a similar
action for Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Macedonian radio, Albanians are fleeing other
villages in the Kumanovo area. Those who remain in the villages are
digging trenches.
Macedonian villagers are also leaving their homes near the village
of Aracinovo in the area around the capital of Skopje. The situation
there was calm but very tense on Wednesday. Shooting was heard in
Aracinovo, but policemen, deployed two kilometres of that village
occupied by the Albanian guerrillas, did not respond to the fire.
