ZAGREB, June 13 (Hina) - The Union of employees in agriculture, food
and tobacco industries and Croatian water supply (PPDIV) today
condemned the government's policy of unilateral regulation of the
working and social rights of employees.
Harshly denouncing the government's policy, the unionists say it is
"an utterly impudent, centralist and, in relation to unions,
ignorant policy".
Croatia has an impudent vice-premier, Slavko Linic, who uses every
opportunity to insult union leaders, and a prime minister and
numerous ministers who do not understand that their job is to serve
citizens, the PPDIV statement issued today said.
In the field of agriculture the government is toying with the fates
of 13,000 employees with nine agricultural concerns whose
financial reorganisation has not been completed, the unionists
claim.
They concluded the government is working by orders from
international financial institutions, and advocates a "hard-line
liberal capitalism".
They ask the government to have "more respect for citizens and
workers," and urgently issue a development strategy for Croatia.
Should the government fail to do so, the union will call "all
marginalised, degraded and disappointed workers" to resist the
"inconsistent" government policy.
