ZAGREB, June 4 (Hina) - Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic will travel to Lago Maggiore, Italy, on Friday to attend a summit meeting of presidents of central European countries on 8 and 9 June, Mesic's Office stated on Monday. Central
European heads of state began with such meetings in 1994, and Croatia attended that summit for the first time last year when it was convened in Hungary. This year present at the summit will be the host, Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, and heads of state of Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica was invited for the first time to come to such event. The participants will consider bilateral relations, the promotion of freedom and democracy in Europe and Europe's cultural identity and will exchange opinions on the European Union's enlargement.(hina) ms
