ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - The implementation of a project for
restructuring the Croatian Railways (HZ) was discussed last
Thursday by the HZ management and the World Bank's four-member
mission, that was on a visit to Croatia between 24 and 31 May in
order to get an insight into the progress in restructuring this
Croatian company.
According to a statement which the HZ management issued after last
Thursday's meeting, the World Bank representatives have positively
assessed all what has so far been done in the implementation of the
restructuring. They are optimistic that the project will succeed
for several reasons such as the HZ new management's determination
to carry out the restructuring, the Government's acceptance of a
social programme for the HZ, reality of the five-year operational
programme and plans about investments in HZ.
HZ representatives are aware that they will have to make additional
efforts this year to compensate for delays so that a part of the
project, financed by the World Bank, may be completed by 2003.
