BUDAPEST, May 30 (Hina) - Croatia formally became a member of the Vilnius Group, which gathers countries aspiring to membership in NATO, in Budapest on Wednesday. Members of the Vilnius Group are Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Macedonia, Slovenia and Slovakia. "Croatia's joining this group of countries is a proof that Croatia is considered to be a country knocking on NATO's door" Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula said after a meeting of the V-10 group, held within a NATO conference in Budapest Wednesday. Also present at the meeting was U.S. Secretary of State Collin Powell who supported ambitions of V-10 member countries. Powell stressed the United States intended to reduce its military and political engagement in Southeastern Europe.
