ZAGREB ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - An exhibition on the Parthenon will be staged in the 'Mimara' Museum in Zagreb on Wednesday, within the official visit of Greek President Constantin Stephanpoulos, who is together with his Croatian
counterpart Stjepan Mesic, a sponsor of this event. The exhibition presents the selection of findings and documents in relation to a programme for the research, restoration and protection of the Acropolis. The Parthenon is regarded as a masterpiece of the world architecture. It was built to replace two earlier temples of Athena on the Acropolis in the fifth century BC. It is known that chief architects were Iktinos and Kallikrates and also the sculptor Pheidias. The temple represents the tangible and visible efflorescence of Athenian imperial power.(hina) sb ms
